Person Centered
expressive arts work - a "one-page" zine offering
The last few days, I have been gathering information for my taxes. This is what I looked like during all of those hours. (image of a human with a deep frustration on their face).
I want to feel proud that I have it more organized than in years past, but also, there is always some little stray thing I can write off, and believe you me, I will write off every last thing. Every last piece of paper that I used or offered to my clients. Every last marker that I bought. Every last mile I drove to (updating) go to a conference! Driving to see colleagues does not count. Alas. I am not a CPA, please seek your own tax advice.
I am a holder of hope that we can be a place of peace. I know it is far off, but I have been drawing peace signs since I first knew I could. Perhaps it was in elementary school?
Maybe middle school was where I first encountered an anarchy sign. I am not sure where I first saw either of these symbols, but they are dear to me, and I don’t think they are inseparable. More on that one day, perhaps.
But for now, let’s make some art and process our feelings.
I invite you to pick up a pen, a paintbrush, a pencil, and create something for you, just you. Or if you would like, you will give this page/zine away. It is always truly up to you what you do with your creations.
Here is your invitation to make a “one page”, which I did not come up with (so thanks to the many before me who have shared this fun technique). Take your paper and fold it as such. In half, in half again, and then a third time. Then you will cut a small hole in the middle of the page. Here is more info. for those who want all the details: https://www.readbrightly.com/how-to-make-zine/
Then you can add some color if you would like, and number your pages so once you create, you will know the order of your words, if that is important to you. Mine is not going to be a story, per se, so I am not super worried about that, but you might be.
And finally, a time lapse for my kinesthetic learners:
Here is someone who is doing a very cool zine offering:
On Tuesdays, we gather for one hour. Your first session is always free. If you have been around, you may have read these words; if you are new, you might not have seen this offering:

Person-Centered Expressive Arts cultivation is my jam!
Overview: Join me for an experiential person-centered expressive arts practice designed for therapists, helpers, coaches, and healers. Though I have been calling to ALL people: “join us”. We are not really speaking about our work as much these days, but we are getting to the creative time and having 30 solid minutes of creation, and about 10-15 minutes of connection around what we might have created. There is never any pressure to actually produce anything!
If you would like, you’ll learn how to integrate creative expression into your clinical work and share these transformative practices with your clients. But perhaps you will spend the next few weeks taking this time for yourself and not thinking about work at all!
Art is an integral part of my life and clinical practice. I regularly use creative expression as a processing tool during and after therapy sessions, and I extend these invitations to my clients as well. I am trained in the Person-Centered Expressive Arts approach developed by Natalie Rogers, which emphasizes the creative connection and the healing power of self-expression.
Important Note: This is person-centered expressive arts, not art therapy. I’ll explain the distinction and its significance during our sessions together.
